Carol Service

Posted on: 22nd Dec 2025

Our annual Carol service has brought our Christmas festivities to a close again this year. What a treat to see all of Y3-6 at All Saints Church, Woodford Wells celebrating Christmas and delivering a moving performance based loosely on King’s College, Cambridge, Nine Lessons and Carols. Our Head Boy and Girl and Deputies, and Y5 read beautifully. Both Choirs performed their own angelic rendition of songs based around the Virgin Mary and the meaning of Christmas. Y3&4 sang a jazzy version of Away in a Manger and Y5&6 sang the most beautifully plaintive song written originally in the 1600s for the Huron people of Canada. The boys began the song and the girls echoed the melody singing in canon (many overlapping layers of sound) which created a tempered, calm and soothing effect perfect for reflection at Christmas time. To round off the service, after singing three traditional carols, the whole school celebrated the birth of Christ through their song Ring Out the Bells. Again the boys and girls echoed individual singing lines singing in canon together. The effect was magical to hear a chorus of 180 children all singing, not only together but also in harmony with each other.

May the harmony continue into our New Year both within the school and outside. Merry Christmas from the Music Department and thank you for your continued support.

We look forward to further engagements starting with our internal Whole School Singing competition two weeks into January followed by a Teatime concert on Tuesday 3rd February, our participation in the Stratford Festival of Music on Monday 8th February and our joint venture with Chigwell School at the prestigious London venue Cadogan Hall Tuesday 10th February.
