WGPS Forest School Expands into Phase 1

Posted on: 10th Sep 2025
We are excited to announce the expansion of our Forest School programme into Phase 1, following its successful introduction in EYFS last year. This is an important step in our school development plan as we continue to provide enriching outdoor learning opportunities for our pupils.

Led by our qualified Forest School Leaders, the programme is guided by the principles of the Forest School Association and the Institute for Outdoor Learning. It offers a holistic, child-led approach that encourages curiosity, builds resilience, and fosters a lifelong connection with the natural world.

Through carefully planned sessions, pupils will:

  • Explore woodlands and natural habitats.
  • Enjoy nature walks, wildlife observation, and plant identification.
  • Develop practical skills such as den building and natural crafts.
  • Build teamwork and social skills through outdoor challenges and games.
  • Cultivate a sense of environmental responsibility and care.

Children will take part in sessions throughout the year, wearing their PE kit and weather-appropriate clothing, with wellies required for all activities. On the final day, we plan to take the children off-site to a nearby forest, giving them the chance to apply their learning in a larger, more immersive natural environment.

We are thrilled to see Forest School continue to grow and look forward to the many benefits this unique approach will bring to our pupils’ learning and development.
