Spotlight on EDI: Researching Iran (Ancient Persia) in History Club

Posted on: 28th Mar 2024

Throughout this term in History Club, our focus has been on delving into the civilisation of Ancient Persia, situated in what is now known as Iran.

The children have studied the placement of Persia on maps and globes to understand its geographical context. By looking at Persia's location they have been able to link it with Years 5/6 learning about ancient Greece and the Greek - Persian wars.

A Year 3 child, of Iranian heritage, produced a slide show to teach the club about Iran including: historical facts; photographs of places he has visited with his family and information about some famous Persian and Iranian people.  He also presented the slide show and answered the pupils questions about it.

After this the children independently produced their own slide shows about someone from ancient Persia and presented them to the class.

Currently they are painting pictures based on Persian art and will be making some Persian food before the end of term.

A fun and enjoyable way to learn some facts about a culture and peoples which are not included in mainstream history, and thereby learning to appreciate the contributions of others from different backgrounds.
