IAPS Netball Qualifier Showcases Outstanding Performance by Dedicated Team

Posted on: 27th Feb 2024

It was a very early wake up call on Thursday 22nd February for the 10 girls that were involved in the IAPS netball Qualifier.  Thankfully all the girls arrived on time for a quick departure at 7.15am, ready to travel by minibus to Kent College.

We arrived at Kent College and began our matches by 9.15am.  Luckily we were moved to the college’s inside courts due to the terribly wet conditions meaning we remained dry and warm for the duration.

With 16 schools in attendance we were divided into four pool groups, each with 4 schools meaning that we played three matches before being entered into either the Cup competition (for 1st and 2nd placed teams) or the Plate competition (for 3rd and 4th placed teams).

These were the 15 Schools which took part in the Qualifier:

Holmewood House

Kent College Pembury Dulwich

Kent College Canterbury Ashford Prep

Downsend Sutton Valence

Granville St Michael’s

Vinehall Rose Hill

Somerhill Walthamstow Hall

Brambletye Kings Rochester

We were placed in pool 1 playing against the following schools: Kent College Pembury, Kent College Canterbury, and Brambletye school.

As we won two and drew one match we came first in our pool meaning that we would move onto the tougher round of Cup matches.  Our first match was against the ferocious Somerhill.  Unfortunately we couldn't quite pull off another win; we did however score the first goal of our match but the opposition came back with 3 goals meaning the final score was 1-3.  In the end we narrowly missed out on progressing onto the semi finals by a measly 2 goals!  Although extremely disheartening not to be able to progress further, the girls played amazingly throughout the competition and held their own against the toughest teams in the area.  Mrs Fox and myself are so very proud of all their hard work and training which enabled them to get to this level and we are already looking forward to next year.

We would like to say a very big thank you to all the parents that helped support and enabled the pupils to arrive for a very early start.  We appreciate your dedication and support.
