Turn up the Volume for Haven House - WGPS Danceathon

Posted on: 11th Oct 2019

Wellbeing week at Woodford Green Prep began on Monday 7th October, with a plan to embrace five aspects of maintaining our own wellbeing using the key words of Active, Connect, Give, Learn and Mindful. Through class based and whole school activities, we enabled the school community to engage with these principles.

As part of the themes of Active and Give, a Danceathon was planned in aid of Haven House. We were very lucky to be visited by Ginny Donnelly, a representative from Haven House, who delivered an assembly to the staff and children, showing us the incredible facilities provided. Haven House supports over 900 families, looking after children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. During the summer term, our school council reps visited Haven House and worked together to come up with the idea of raising money by dancing.

On Friday 11th October the school came together in the hall and danced for Haven House. We danced non-stop for the entire assembly, lasting 20 minutes. Well done to everyone who took part and the star dancers who received prizes. A special Thank you to everyone who supported this activity by pledging sponsorship money, over £2800 was raised!  Your donations are gratefully received by the staff and families at Haven House.
